Man charged with drug crimes following traffic stop

On Behalf of | Sep 28, 2017 | Drug Charges

Police officers in North Dakota frequently employ the use of traffic stops in their ongoing law enforcement efforts. These stops allow them to monitor routine activity or perhaps investigate potentially suspicious behavior. In some cases, police officers discover drug crimes or other illicit conduct. Recently, highway patrol troopers arrested a Marshall man after they allegedly found several illegal substances in his car during a traffic stop.

According to the police report, the driver of the car, a 28-year-old man, was detained at a traffic stop on Interstate 94 near Casselton. Evidently, a K-9 unit was requested to investigate the vehicle. It was reported that over 41 pounds of marijuana was discovered in the car. Hash oil and several edible cannabis products were also supposedly found.

The man was arrested by troopers from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He also faces a charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Being charged with drug crimes in North Dakota is a very serious matter since penalties for a conviction in the state may include substantial fines to a significant time in jail. It is necessary to present the strongest defense possible when faced with these charges. An experienced criminal defense attorney can provide valuable guidance throughout every step of the legal process. A knowledgeable lawyer will protect a client’s rights by evaluating all evidence in a case and verifying that all searches, stops or questioning were conducted legally. A strong defense team will work diligently to minimize the charges’ negative impact on someone’s life.
