Minnesota has fewer drunk drivers than other states

On Behalf of | Jan 2, 2024 | Drunk Driving

During the holiday season, more people are driving at the same time, and there is typically an increase in the number of intoxicated drivers on the road. Law enforcement notes that there are more drunk driving arrests during this time of year, but this may not be as common in Minnesota. According to statistics, this state ranks as the 6th lowest for drunk driving in the nation.

An examination of arrests and other factors

A look at the number of drunk driving arrests over the holiday season across the nation indicate that there is a sharp increase in the overall number of drunk driving arrests during the holidays. When ranking states by their number of drunk drivers and road safety, the following metrics were considered:

  • Number of drunk drivers involved in fatal accidents
  • Total of DWI arrests per 100,000 drivers
  • Number of drunk drivers under the age of 21 involved in fatal accidents

With Minnesota ranking as 6th lowest, it reasonable to assume that the roads may be safer as there are fewer drunk drivers. However, there are still plenty of drunk driving arrests during the holidays, and law enforcement does engage in increased patrols.

Arrested for DWI?

Any individual arrested for a DWI during the holiday season may be facing serious penalties and other repercussions in the new year. It is important to seek counsel regarding defense options and ways to protect one’s interests. The penalties for a DWI are steep, with potential penalties includes loss of driving privileges, time behind bars, expensive fines and more.
