Man revived after overdose, then charged with drug crime

On Behalf of | Nov 8, 2023 | Drug Charges

Drug crimes come with a range of penalties that include time behind bars, expensive fines, loss of reputation and more. The repercussions associated with felony drug crimes are particularly severe and come with the potential for extensive prison sentences. One Minnesota man is facing a felony drug charge after an encounter with law enforcement at a motel in Austin. Police were called to the location after a report of a guest having a medical emergency.

Details of the criminal complaint

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, the defendant was unresponsive on the floor of a motel room. Police administered Narcan, and they used an AED to revive him. After searching the guest, the report indicates that a baggie was found in the defendant’s pocket, which allegedly contained 10 to 50 grams of methamphetamine. He denied being the owner of the drugs.

The woman who called in the emergency event immediately left the area, and police have not been able to locate her. At this time, he is currently facing charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. This is likely due to the large amount of the drug found in his possession.

Defending his future

The charges against him are serious, but he has the right to defend himself against these allegations. He can confront the prosecution’s case against him and present evidence supporting the defense strategy. It may be helpful for him to speak with an experienced Minnesota criminal law attorney to understand the legal options available to him.
