Drunk driving suspected after pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | May 7, 2023 | DUI

In Minnesota, the repercussions for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol are significant. A driver convicted of this type of criminal offense could face time behind bars, expensive fines and other consequences that could impact the rest of his or her life. Even an arrest could result in the temporary loss of driving privileges. The potential penalties are especially grave in the event of a DUI-related motor vehicle accident.

An alcohol-related accident

A driver was recently arrested after an accident during which a moving vehicle struck a pedestrian. The accident took place late in the evening, and it is not clear where the pedestrian was walking when the vehicle struck her. The woman suffered serious injuries in the crash, and she was taken to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Police took the driver into custody on suspicion of drunk driving. It is not clear whether the police performed sobriety tests or a chemical test of his blood alcohol content. Other details of the event are not available, but Minnesota law enforcement did note that additional charges were possible.

Confronting the charges against him

The ideal DUI defense strategy is specific to the individual situation. This defendant will benefit from seeking a careful evaluation of his case to determine the most effective direction for his defense plan, as well as to see if he or she experienced a violation of personal rights at any step. Each person facing drunk driving charges has the right to fight back against the prosecution’s case, pursuing the best possible outcome and seeking to potentially mitigate the penalties he or she is up against.
