Facing gun-related weapons charges?

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2021 | Criminal Defense

Many Minnesota and North Dakota residents are gun owners. Unless they have a reason that prohibits their right to gun ownership, which is a topic discussed in two previous posts earlier this year, there is nothing wrong with this. However, responsible gun ownership is a must. Those who fail to exercise their right responsibly, or those who own guns illegally, may face weapons charges that can carry significant consequences — if they are convicted.

Common reasons people are arrested on weapons charges

There are various reasons why someone might be arrested on a weapons charge. State regulations regarding weapons are frequently changed, which could cause legal issues for gun owners if they aren’t keeping up with the changes. A few other reasons numerous Minnesota and North Dakota residents may be charged with weapon-related crimes include:

  • Reckless handling
  • Intentionally discharging
  • Illegal sales
  • Illegal possession

The consequences if convicted for any weapon-related charges can vary but often include jail time and fines. Some individuals may face prison time. All may have their right to own a gun stripped from them.

Defend yourself

Weapon-related crimes are not treated lightly in Minnesota or North Dakota. There is a lot on the line if you are convicted. Thankfully, if you have found yourself facing weapons charges, you have the right to defend yourself. It may not be easy, and there are no guarantees that the case will go your way, but an experienced criminal defense attorney can assist you as you navigate criminal proceedings and help you fight for the best outcome possible.
