DUI charges filed after recent crash in Fargo

On Behalf of | Aug 22, 2021 | DUI

Law enforcement officers in North Dakota recently arrested one of their own for crashing his car while allegedly driving under the influence. This individual is now charged with DUI with a minor present. Given his position as a law enforcement officer, this individual has a lot to lose if he is ultimately convicted.

What happened?

According to news reports, on Monday, Aug. 2, Fargo police responded to Custom Express Car Wash to investigate an automobile accident. It is unclear if this was a single-vehicle collision or if any other vehicles were involved. Reports only state that when police arrived on the scene, they found a man and two children in a damaged car. The man was arrested for suspicion of impaired driving

The accused

The accused has been identified as a sheriff’s deputy for Cass County. He was placed on administrative leave the day of the accident. Convicted or not, he could end up losing his job over this incident.

Defense

This event could cost the accused his livelihood and, if the minors were his children, affect his parental rights. If convicted, it could land him in jail, require him to pay hefty fines and result in a loss of driving privileges — at least temporarily. As there is a lot on the line in this particular DUI case, the accused can help himself by turning to an experienced criminal defense attorney for assistance in addressing the matter. With the right help in his corner, he can work to achieve the best possible outcome — whether that be a case dismissal or a reduction in charges and penalties. An attorney can also help him deal with the administrative consequences typically seen in North Dakota DUI cases.
