Fargo teen facing DUI charge

On Behalf of | Feb 11, 2021 | DUI

At the end of January, police in Fargo arrested a young man for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. In North Dakota, the consequences that accompany a conviction on such a charge can be significant. As such, how the teen addresses his case matters.

What happened?

According to a recently published news reporton the morning of Jan. 30, a 19-year-old male was operating his vehicle near 12 Avenue North and 35th Street North when he supposedly left the roadway, drove across a field and attempted to drive over some train tracks. However, his car became stuck on the tracks, and he was unable to free the vehicle. Thankfully, he and no one else was hurt in the process.

Soon after becoming stuck on the train tracks, police found the vehicle and the teenager was arrested. At a minimum, he is facing criminal charges for driving under the influence. It is unclear if any further charges are expected in this case.

Zero tolerance Policy

In North Dakota, there is a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking and driving. The penalties if this young man is ultimately convicted include fines, jail time, court-ordered addiction recovery and possible license suspension  among others. If this young man has a criminal record or is considered a habitual offender, the consequences may only increase in their severity. Having a DUI conviction on his record at such a young age can affect any job or school prospects the accused has, among other things. With so much on the line, prepping and presenting a strong criminal defense is a must to help the accused achieve the best outcome possible.
