Traffic stops lead to drug charges for 4 men

On Behalf of | Sep 25, 2019 | Drug Charges

Four men are in police custody following two separate traffic stops on Interstate 80. At both stops, North Dakota police say they discovered drugs after searching the respective vehicles. All of the defendants are facing drug charges.

The first traffic stop occurred at around 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 11, when a police officer spotted an eastbound vehicle traveling at 98 mph. When the officer approached the vehicle during the stop, he allegedly smelled marijuana inside of the vehicle. Multiple officers conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly found 3 pounds of marijuana, nearly 60 grams of THC edibles, almost 40 THC vape cartridges and 2000 mg of syrup containing THC. Police arrested the three men inside of the vehicle, who ranged in age from 19 to 22 years old.

The second traffic stop happened about 12 hours later, at 7:30 p.m. when an officer pulled over a driver who reportedly failed to signal. This officer also reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search allegedly uncovered nearly 200 pounds of marijuana. THC edibles and vape cartridges, mushrooms, various other drugs and a handgun were also cited in the search findings. The 50-year-old driver was also arrested.

Facing felony drug charges is no small matter. If convicted, defendants can spend years behind bars and may struggle to find employment once released. It is important to minimize these potential consequences, but doing so requires careful attention to detail and a thorough understanding of the charges and evidence at hand. Because of this, working with an experienced North Dakota attorney can be a good idea for some defendants.
