Driver faces felony charges for multi-state vehicle chase

On Behalf of | Sep 11, 2019 | Drug Charges

Police in North Dakota recently arrested a man who led authorities on a vehicle chase across state lines. The driver is charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot and reckless driving among other felony charges. He apparently also has several active warrants for his arrest, although it is not clear if those warrants are for North Dakota or a different state.

The 21-year-old driver initially fled police in a neighboring state where the motor vehicle chase first started. He eventually crossed over the state line and into North Dakota. At approximately 12:21 p.m., police officers in Grand Forks were made aware of a nearby vehicle pursuit. The officers joined the attempt to stop the driver, but were unsuccessful.

The driver ultimately evaded authorities. However, the vehicle that he was driving was later discovered parked in the lot of an apartment complex The car was empty, and police began to search around that area. He was eventually discovered hiding in a patch of trees some distance away near the interstate. Although he ran across the interstate upon being found, officers on the other side apprehended him.

Felony charges are more serious than misdemeanors, and typically carry longer jail sentences and bigger fines. Because of this, it is important that defendants fully understand their charges, any evidence and the possible consequences of convictions. Since criminal law can be confusing and often varies from state to state, speaking with an attorney who is knowledgeable in North Dakota state law may be helpful.
