It is not clear if the driver of a semi-truck was on duty during an incident that apparently involved cans of beer, a firearm and North Dakota police. The driver was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor for firing a firearm within the city limits. He is also facing two felonies in addition to the weapons charge.
Shortly before 8 p.m. in early Aug. 2019, a motorist alerted police to what he or she believed was a semi-truck driver under the influence of alcohol. The tractor trailer was not moving at this time, and the witness exited his or her vehicle to confirm the license plate number for police. At that point, the semi driver allegedly threw cans of beer at the witness and then pointed a firearm out of the window, discharging it.
Police responded to the scene a short while later. When the 58-year-old driver spotted the approaching officers, he supposedly fled into his residence, which he initially refused to leave. Local authorities notified a special response team that their services might be of need, but those concerns never played out. After spending about 20 minutes on peaceful negotiations, the driver willingly left the residence.
His misdemeanor weapons charge is apparently for the incident that occurred while the witness was on the phone with police. The defendant is also charged with reckless endangerment as well as terrorizing, which are both felonies in North Dakota. It is usually best to deal with these types of criminal allegations as soon as possible, because doing so can help defendants better understand their situations.
