Drug crimes charges filed after motorcycle chase

On Behalf of | Jul 3, 2019 | Drug Charges

North Dakota police officers recently arrested a man on multiple charges, including both felonies and misdemeanors. Facing charges ranging from drug crimes to weapon offenses, he was taken into police custody following two accidents he was allegedly involved in. Police say he was the only one injured in the two accidents.

In June 2019, officers were notified of a possible robbery in progress. They responded at approximately 6:40 p.m., at which time the 36-year-old male suspect supposedly fled the scene on a motorcycle. The man apparently hit a police vehicle as he drove away, which caused only minor damage to the car. Police pursued the man for an unspecified period of time until he collided with another vehicle. He attempted to flee on foot, but police say they quickly stopped him.

A search of the man’s belongings supposedly turned up methamphetamine as well as a handgun, and the motorcycle he was riding had been reported as stolen. Because of prior convictions, the man was not supposed to have firearms in his possession, and was charged with a Class C felony for felon in possession of a weapon. He also faces felonies for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to deliver, fleeing an officer and possessing a stolen vehicle. He was also arrested for driving on a suspended license leaving an accident scene, both of which are misdemeanors.

Defendants who are facing multiple criminal charges should be aware of how much is on the line. Criminal consequences for individual charges can quickly add up, leading to unfavorable outcomes such as lengthy jail time or incredibly high fines. Defendants in North Dakota who are in this situation are well advised to begin working on a criminal defense plan as soon as possible in order to determine how best to proceed. Some individuals who are facing drug crimes charges or other serious allegations find that negotiating a plea deal for lesser charges can yield the best possible results. For others, fighting the charges to their fullest extent is a more appropriate option.
