Car chase, drug crimes warrants lead to 2 arrests

On Behalf of | Jul 17, 2019 | Drug Charges

A serious car accident led to the recent arrest of two North Dakota women. Reportedly, at least one of the women was arrested because of active warrants for drug possession and felony escape. The other woman was also arrested on a warrant for a drug crimes charge.

A 28-year-old woman allegedly led police on a high-speed chase, which a witness estimated occurred at speeds upward of 70 mph. Authorities did not disclose what started the chase. While driving in or near a residential area, the driver struck a tree with her vehicle and then hit a nearby residential fence. The vehicle then rolled and came to rest on the roof.

Both the driver and her passenger — another 28-year-old woman — were injured in the accident and had to be transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Both of the women were released into police custody after receiving treatment. Police are expected to bring additional charges against the driver for her apparent role in the high-speed pursuit. It is not clear if she will be charged for any damage to the property where she crashed, although she did not hit the house.

Authorities in North Dakota treat charges for drug crimes seriously. These allegations might be further complicated by additional charges, which can increase fines and lengthen jail time if convicted. For the average defendant, an early and timely start on criminal defense planning can play an important role in securing the best possible outcome for his or her unique situation.
