Authorities arrest man accused of drug crimes

An out-of-state man was recently arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into the state. Police charged the man with a number of drug crimes charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. He is currently still in police custody, although a judge set a $10,000 bond.

The ordeal began at 3 a.m. when a North Dakota police officer noticed a vehicle that had been sitting with the lights on for a number of hours. Upon approaching the vehicle, the 28-year-old driver supposedly behaved in a manner that caused the officer to become suspicious. The officer claims that during that conversation he spotted drug paraphernalia through the car's window. This prompted a search of the vehicle.

Officers say that they found a bag of marijuana, a significant amount of methamphetamine, THC wax, various drug paraphernalia, small plastic bags and a scale. They also allegedly uncovered multiple firearms and ammunition in the trunk of the vehicle. Police arrested the man following the search. It is unclear where he was purportedly smuggling the drugs from and whether their intended destination was North Dakota or elsewhere.

Criminal charges involving drug crimes and weapons can have steep consequences for defendants who are convicted. This can make facing charges an extremely distressing experience. However, North Dakota defendants have options for addressing their criminal charges. Some find that negotiating a plea deal with the prosecution for lesser charges can be an extremely effective approach. Others find the best possible outcome through fighting the charges to their fullest extent.
