Sometimes, people who hold positions in which they are expected to help prevent and address drug crimes are accused of committing such crimes. Recently, drug crime charges were brought against an instructor who was receiving training at a North Dakota training academy for law enforcement (the individual is an instructor with a different agency).
The instructor is accused of offering to purchase prescription pills from a student at the training academy who was recently injured and prescribed the pills for pain. It has further been alleged that she made a request for pills to another student.
Illegal prescription drug use and sale has been a growing problem around the nation for several years and it seems that this problem isn’t going away anytime soon. It is high likely that law enforcement officials will be taking all the steps they can to address illegal drug abuse.
Unfortunately, the same tactics that are aimed at keeping people safe and reducing the power and role of crime in any society can also affect negatively those who have done nothing wrong when authorities get overly zealous with them. There are cases around the nation every year in which charges and punishments are leveled against people who didn’t actually commit the crimes they were accused of.
