2 allegedly attempted to shoplift $3,000 of merchandise

A woman was recently charged with theft after officers claim that she attempted to steal merchandise at a department store in North Dakota. Reports say that police received a report of two customers that appeared to be suspicious at a Kohl's store. Police arrived at the store and waited outside until a 22-year-old woman exited with an unidentified male.

According to police, when the pair saw officers waiting outside the store, they attempted to flee the premises. Officers gave chase and were able to apprehend the female. The female was charged with attempting to flee from police and for being an accomplice to theft of property.

Sources say that the man was able to flee. However, police officers reportedly have his name and information. Authorities claim that the man and woman attempted to steal approximately $3,000 worth of merchandise from the store.

If someone has been accused of theft or other offenses, he or she could employ the services of a criminal defense lawyer who could review the case and possibly formulate a credible defense strategy. For instance, the lawyer could challenge the officers' allegations against a defendant by examining police reports to possibly uncover any breaches in protocol by the arresting officers. Police must conduct themselves in accordance to strict guidelines, but if they failed to comply with proper procedure or infringed on a defendant's rights, then charges could be dropped or dismissed. In other situations where there is strong evidence to convict an individual, however, a lawyer could seek to have some of the consequences lessened through a plea bargain.
